Mental Health Technician – THIRA Health – Bellevue, WA

Job Type: Full-time or part-time; including some weekends

THIRA Health seeks a Mental Health Technician with excellent communication, interpersonal, and administrative skills. The ideal candidate must be organized, proactive, flexible, a team player, and have experience working in, or expressed interest in pursuing a healthcare work environment with direct mental health patient interaction.  The Mental Health Tech will, under the direction of a licensed mental health professional, work as an active participant of the treatment team by assisting in the maintenance of a safe and therapeutic environment. The Mental Health Technician supervises patients in the treatment milieu and during breaks/mealtimes, helping to facilitate effective engagement with staff and other patients.

Our Leadership: THIRA’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Mehri Moore, brings with her over 35 years of experience, which she applies in her care and guidance over each individual’s experience. THIRA’s Clinical Director, Dr. Kathryn Korslund, recently transitioned to THIRA after spending her career as research scientist at UW’s Behavioral Research and Therapy Clinics (BRTC) and working alongside Dr. Marsha Linehan on further developing and evaluating Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). Our multi-disciplinary team is comprised of passionate clinicians from a variety of backgrounds in order to serve each individual in a holistic manner.

Job Duties Overview: 

  • Support and assist psychotherapists, nurses, and dietary staff in creating and maintaining a safe and therapeutic milieu environment
  • Observe and report changes in patient’s behaviors, physical symptoms, and mental health status to the clinical team
  • Serve as point of contact for new patients entering the program orienting them to program structure, space and rules
  • Co-facilitate community meetings with therapy staff, encourage group engagement
  • Participate in milieu activities, reinforce effective interactions and provide redirection for ineffective interactions
  • Provide supported interventions in the milieu to facilitate patients practicing DBT skills

Required Experience/Credentials:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree

Preferred Experience/Credentials:

  • Prior work experience in mental/behavioral health settings preferred; work experience with eating disorders, trauma, chemical dependency, mood disorders, and/or anxiety disorders preferred
