THIRA Health seeks a skilled Medical Director with excellent communication, interpersonal, and administrative skills. The candidate should have crisis management experience and be able to effectively support in treating a caseload of up to 50+ adolescent and adult female behavioral health patients in partnership with THIRA’s attending Chief Medical Officer and Medical Team. The Medical Director is an integral part of the THIRA Health treatment team and reports to the Chief Medical Officer. The Medical Director must be comfortable prescribing and treatment planning for medically or psychiatrically complex cases.  The Medical Director will also be responsible for directing and overseeing the administrative functions that directly impact medical services within our programming.

THIRA’s Clinical Director, Dr. Kathryn Korslund, recently transitioned to THIRA after spending her career as research scientist at UW’s Behavioral Research and Therapy Clinics (BRTC) and working alongside Dr. Marsha Linehan on further developing and evaluating Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). Job Duties:

  • Evaluate patients’ psychiatric needs, prescribe, and manage patient psychiatric medication while patients are enrolled in IOP or PHP level of care through regular medication management appointments and initial psychiatric evaluations; follow up on any medical/medication related issues as needed
  • Collaborate with attending Psychiatrist/Chief Medical Officer and multidisciplinary clinical team to create treatment plans and implement recommendations
  • Support in utilization review of all patients and interface with third-party payers to advocate for patient reauthorizations
  • Provide oversight and direction to all medical services of THIRA Health programming; ensure adequate and qualified medical staff for clinical services/coverage needs and maintain high quality medical patient care
  • Participate in program development and implementation of all medical initiatives; participate in growth and development of THIRA business ventures from a medical/psychiatric lens
  • Identify opportunities for quality improvement in patient care and safety; assist in quality improvement initiatives and programs
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with the larger psychiatric/medical community; networking, presentations, seminars, etc.
  • Manage overall operational, budgetary, and financial responsibilities and activities of the Medical department
  • Manage Medical staff including but not limited to Nurse Practitioner(s), Registered Nurse(s), Licensed Practical Nurse(s): approximately 3-5 staff

Required Experience:

  • Doctor or Medicine or Osteopathy in Psychiatry (MD or DO) from an accredited medical school
  • Board certified in Psychiatry
  • Licensed prescriber in State of Washington; current license must maintain good standing with the State Licensing Board
  • Two years minimum post-residency experience as a MD or DO required

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience in Hospital Administration and/or managing staff or department preferred
  • Experience working in IPU, IOP, PHP preferred
  • Experience with Eating Disorders preferred
  • Experience in providing short terms, evidence-based psychotherapy (CBT, DBT, etc.) preferred
  • Experience public speaking and/or teaching preferred
